Joey Burke has been auctioneering for 39 years and his passion and enthusiasm for fundraisers is seen by the amounts of money that he has raised for charities across the Western Cape and South Africa.
He is well known for his bubbly, energetic and electric auction methods and does not stop until the maximum amount is achieved. At the end of most of his functions he is not satisfied if he has not exceeded the organisations expectations and the charities are always pleasantly surprised.
During the past decade he has raised over R 40 Million for the likes of Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey, Peter Gabriel , Ronan Keating, Evita Bezuidenhout, Helen Zille and organisations such as the Amy Foundation, Reach for a Dream, Fellows for Cancer and hundreds of worthy causes around South Africa. He has performed on MNET’S television series THE BLOCK and competed in the International auctioneering championships in the United States. Recently he was a competitor on Come Dine With Me South Africa.
Some of the highlights of Joey”s auction career include:
- The moment when he sold a photograph for R 1.1 million for Nelson Mandela at the 46664 Charity fundraiser right in front of Madiba himself. ” Meeting him was an incredible experience” .
- Auctioning off a weekend on Kimi Raikkonen’s yacht in Monaco at the Grand Prix for R 700 000 was another Spectacular momen
- Auctioning Naomi Campbell’s Dress for R 150 000 with her on stage with him.

11 contestants put their awesome chants to the test at the 2019 National Auctioneering Championships held in Johannesburg at the Rand Park Club. This years championships were very exciting as it included a 17 year old competitor from the Western Cape who was placed third. He is definitely an up and coming auctioneer who has started his own business already and is making waves at such an early age. His style and chant stood out significantly as he spoke in two languages, both Afrikaans and English. The winner of this years event Gift Ngwenya sent the bidders into a bidding war making sure that the prices he received were the best and that his style shone through for the judges. Joey Burke's enthusiastic auction chant was electric and extremely appealing as he sold a rugby ball signed by three legendary captains Corne Krige, John Smit and Jean de [...]
On Saturday the 16th March 2019 approximately 100 guests from around Cape Town attended the wonderful initiative "Pieces for Paws " Charity fundraiser. The event initiated by "Giving is Living" was a tremendous success with close to R 300 000,00 raised for our animals in need. The funds raised went to help the Mdzananda Clinic, SANCOBB and Wolwerivier Outreach, saving and helping a well needed service to assist our neglected animals who are in desperate need of care.. The art was well received and people bid furiously to get the piece that they wanted. Art included an Anton Smit Mask which fetched R 60 000,00, a Richard Scott original created with recycled materials and worked in with underprivileged children, which fetched R 10 000. and many more extraordinarily exquisite pieces..
Based on the very well known "Amazing Race" Joey Burke and his team introduced a fun filled exciting end of year team builder for companies- "The Cape Race". Employees were sent round the Cape Peninsular answering and finding clues which were written in rhyme and cryptic format. The enthusiastic teams decorated their cars and dressed up to win the competition. They did not know where their final destination was, but it ended up at a restaurant where they celebrated the end of the year. Teams such as "Cops and Robbers" "Fairies" "Mignons"and other fun names were forced to build sand castles, visit $5 shops, climb through obstacle courses and work out company core values through cryptic clues. The town was painted with lots of colour and enthusiastic players as the teams set off in their separate cars, racing to the finish. It was a tremendous success with lots of laughter and [...]
In just two months Joey Burke has raised 7 Million Rand for charities across the Western Cape & the generosity of the public has been overwhelming. The auction events have proven to be a very successful way of raising funds for the organisations. Money has been raised for animals, education, schools, children's homes, hospitals, bursaries, palliative care & a variety of worthy causes in the Western Cape. The millions raised will go a long way promoting sustainability and long term growth of the NGO'S and the wonderful work that they do.. The unique experiences that cannot be bought on the normal market are the key to successful auctions. For example one bidder purchased a day trip to Antarctic for R 100 000 , another paid R 50 000 for dinner with the well known Thuli Madonsela,People also paid R 110 000 to go on a dream with terminally ill patients in the Reach for [...]
The Consular Ball of 2018 held at the Kelvin Grove Ball room was a tremendous success breaking records by raising R 1.2 Million Rand. The exceptionally unique auction experiences were the main attraction as a day trip to the Antarctica fetched R 120 000,00 , an Anton Smit mask fetched R 220 000,00 and dinner with Thuli Madonsela was sold twice for R 50 000,00 each. The usual highlight of the evening and star item was a trip to Slovenia which sold three times for R 150 000. International artists did the "quick change"routine and dazzled the audience with their magnificent dance and change routine and the Tygerberg Children's Choir serenaded the audience into tears of emotion. All the funds raised went to the Durbanville Children's Home,, The Cape Tomes bursary fund , Proud partners and Shine Literacy. It was certainly a night to remember !!!

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, optimism and motivation.
We would/ could not have done this without you. You are amazing as an auctioneer, and you received many compliments from the guests. One even asked me “Where did you find him, he’s dynamic?”!
You are part of a team, and are welcome to come and stay when you want to – and relax a bit more than you did last time.
Thank you for arranging the hotel, which gave excellent service, food and ambience, thank you for bringing in items for auction, plus bringing in the “big” buyer, and thank you for visiting Wild Rescue and caring!
