Joey Burke auction’s “adapt or die” attitude has led to the creation of very successful online and live Zoom auctions.It is what is known as the “New Normal” during the Covid crisis. On Wednesday 7th October Joey Burke successfully conducted a live event on Zoom and raised over R100 000 for the Orion Organisation. It was a tremendous success with people typing in their bids at a rapid pace while Joey was chanting the numbers. The live zoom events consist not only of an auction,but includes well known artists who perform in between items for auction. The Orion “Heart for Art “event had two very special guest artists who both donated their time for the people with Disabilities at Orion.They were Lana English(Phantom of The Opera lead singer)whose performance was electrifying as she sang Nessun Dorma with such elegant passion and Larry Soffer (South Africa’s leading Mentalist) who read people’s minds through the Zoom chanell to their individual homes. The artworks on the auction were created by the Orion Organisation’s Art program where people with disabilities can express themselves freely using a brush and paint. The pieces were painted especially for the auction and they were received with some fierce bidding. These Zoom auctions are streamed live through various platforms and sometimes can get up to 2000 – 3000 viewers at a time,creating a much broader audience.
